what are the advantages and disadvantages of owning an Akita?

I don't have 1 but I've heard they make decent guard dogs.Go to dogbreedinfo.com it will tell you about their temperment and descriptions and their average exercise demands.

When I really wanted one, a work colleague told me to really think again, esp. as I had a small two bedroom house. She had an Akita and loved it, but it is really big. That would be the disadvantage, esp. if you were tight on space. She had a large house, but yet, she was always running into this dog. She got knocked into while carrying her baby down the stairs and fell. She held onto the child and saved her, sustaining much injury to herself. You may not need such a large solid animal at your home. Otherwise, the research of the breed I had done back then, made me think I wanted one.

go to petfinders.com….this is a site for rescue groups….just put in your Zip code, and be AMAZED at how many choices you have !!….i adopted a Great Pyrenees mix from them, and my dog Sylvester is great !!….check it out….try it, talk to some Akita owners on line, and get all your questions answered !!….do a good deed….adopt a dog….good luck in you research, and choice of a dog !!!
