big dogs usually don't live as long as small ones…so a 12 yr old Akita is pretty old…but thats good, it means you've been a good dog parent.

If he is the size of an Akita then yes, he is getting up there in years.

honestly it depends on how well the owner takes care of the dog if he makes it to 15 that would be amazing .. jus keep up on his teeth excersise and diet

We were just talking about this at Christmas…my sister has a male short haired akita and a female long haired akita. Her female Akita is 10 years old and we were talking about her failing health. My sister told me that 10 is at the top end of the age limit for these beautiful dogs, so if your dog is 12, he is doing really well…
