We were just talking about this at Christmas...my sister has a male short haired akita and a female long haired akita. Her female Akita is 10 years old and we were talking about her failing health. My sister told me that 10 is at the top end of the age limit for these beautiful dogs, so if your dog is 12, he is doing really well...
I hope this helped...

If he is the size of an Akita then yes, he is getting up there in years.

I had one Purebred Akita live to be 10 years old.
My current Purebred Akita turns 12 years old this month.

big dogs usually don't live as long as small ones...so a 12 yr old Akita is pretty old...but thats good, it means you've been a good dog parent.

10-12 years is the average, but you said he is 3/4, so whatever the 1/4 may be the reason he is living longer.

About 10 to 12 years. It depends on the individual dog and how healthy he is.
