What would be a good dog to cross an Akita with?
Willard asked:
I dont have any serious plans to start breeding anytime soon, but one day I'd like to breed dogs, not just for show quality or moneymaking purposes but for Appearance and temperment.
i've some beautiful akita mixes (with huskies,Wolves, great danes and even rough collies)
personally akitas poesess alot of the traits i seek in a canine companion, but even so crossbreeding dogs has also interested me, much in the same way alot of breeders try to improve their line, someday i'd like to do the same thing,
so all that being said, any suggestions?

I love those dogs, sorry no suggestions though, was gonna say Husky but you got that covered. Good Luck.
Well for money purposes ….breed with another Akita ….only purebreds get big money !! If she is a show dog especially !
Also u could try a husky or a wolf type of dog ! Very beautiful mix and CUTE puppies! good luck to you and happy breeding in the future!!
The dog shelters are full of mixed breeds. Don't breed a dog just for breeding sake, breed only to improve the breed and only breed proven dogs that have gotten their championships in the working field or conformation. There are just too many backyard breeders that just ought to be shot and their mix breed mutts spayed and neutered.
Cross it with an Akita..
You will find ALL of the wonderful mixed breeds that you could ever want in the local shelter..
check out these Akitas>=&pet.Sex=&location=san+diego%2C+CA&preview=1&scope=0&x=5&y=7
there are 829 akita mixes on this site alone..
How about an Alaskan Malamute?
an Akita:))))
There is one reason and one reason only to breed dogs and that is to better the breed. When you cross two breeds together you really do not know what the outcome will be. You may 'think' you'll get what you want but you could end up with a litter of puppies that have the worst traits of both breeds and puppy buyers are much more likely to sue these days, can you afford that?
I would say black lab. We had an Akita/Black lab female and she was a wonderful dog. She had great confirmation and coloring and suprisingly all the great traits of both breeds!
i have thought of cross breeding an akita with a mastif
I own an Akita/Husky he is smarter than his own good!! German Shepard cross would be nice.
The shelters are full of dogs who are mixed breeds. If you must follow through, I would say that smaller dogs are more popular for practical reasons. Many apartments have limitations on dogs only up to 25 lbs.
